Premium Belgian textiles independently tested and certified safe — for you and the environment
✓ 100% OEKO-TEX® Certified | ✓ EU REACH Compliant | ✓ Independently Tested Annually
Our Commitment
At ZM Textiles Belgium, sustainability starts with one non-negotiable principle: every product we sell is independently tested and certified safe — for the people sleeping in it and for the environment it came from.
The textiles you sleep in and dry yourself with are in direct contact with your skin for hours every day. You deserve products that are certified safe, not just claimed to be.
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Certification
What Is OEKO-TEX®?
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is one of the world’s most respected independent textile testing and certification systems. Established in 1992, it certifies that every component of a product — from threads to dyes to finishing treatments — has been tested for harmful substances and is safe for human contact.
100% of our products carry OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification. This is not a marketing claim — it is independently verified, laboratory-tested proof.
Why It Matters
- Health Protection: No harmful chemicals, heavy metals, formaldehyde, or allergens in contact with your skin
- Independent Testing: Third-party laboratory verification by accredited OEKO-TEX® institutes — not self-certification
- Complete Product Testing: Every component tested (fabric, threads, dyes, zippers, labels) — not just the final textile
- Annual Renewal: Certifications renewed yearly with fresh testing against evolving safety standards
- Exceeds EU REACH: Goes beyond European Union REACH chemical safety regulations
- Globally Recognised: Trusted by consumers, retailers, and manufacturers in over 100 countries
What We’re Tested For
Our textiles undergo comprehensive laboratory testing for over 100 harmful substances, including:
- Formaldehyde — skin irritant and carcinogen
- Pesticide residues — from cotton farming
- Heavy metals — lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium
- Allergenic dyes — substances that cause skin reactions
- Carcinogenic substances — including aromatic amines
- pH value — skin-friendly acidity levels (4.0–7.5)
- Colour fastness — ensures dyes don’t transfer to skin
- Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) — chemicals that off-gas into your home

Our Materials & Why We Chose Them
T144 Percale Cotton — Durable & Breathable
Long-staple percale cotton produces stronger, more durable fibres that outlast short-staple alternatives by years. The result: fewer replacements, less waste, lower environmental impact per use over the lifetime of the product. It gets softer with every wash — no degradation.
Jersey Cotton (160 GSM) — Efficient & Easy Care
Jersey cotton is naturally wrinkle-resistant, quick-drying, and highly durable under repeated laundering at 40°C — reducing both energy use and replacement frequency. Ideal for high-turnover environments like rentals and student housing.
Flannel Cotton — Warm Without Synthetics
Our brushed flannel cotton provides natural winter warmth without synthetic fills or chemical treatments. A seasonal, natural alternative that launders easily and lasts years with proper care.
500 & 600 GSM Cotton Towels — Built to Last
Higher GSM means denser, more absorbent, and longer-lasting towels. Our 500–600 GSM cotton towels withstand commercial-level laundering at 60°C while maintaining softness — reducing towel replacement frequency significantly.
Longevity Is Sustainability
The most sustainable product is one that lasts. Our premium materials and reinforced construction are designed so your textiles remain beautiful for years — reducing replacement frequency, resource consumption, and environmental impact per use.
- Bedding: expected lifespan 5–10 years with proper care
- Towels: expected lifespan 3–7 years with proper care
Packaging
We aim for minimal, responsible packaging on every order:
- Recyclable packaging: Cardboard and paper-based materials — recycle in Belgium’s paper recycling stream
- Plastic minimised: We continuously reduce plastic use in our packaging
- Right-sized packaging: Reduces material waste and shipping emissions
EU & Belgian Regulatory Compliance
- REACH Regulation (EC 1907/2006): Full compliance — and OEKO-TEX® certification exceeds these minimum EU requirements
- Belgian Consumer Safety Standards: All products meet national textile safety requirements
- GDPR-compliant checkout: Your data is protected under EU law
- VAT & customs compliance: Correctly invoiced for BE and EU orders
Eco-Friendly Care Tips
The way you care for your textiles has a significant environmental impact. Small changes add up:
- Wash at 40°C instead of 60°C: Significant energy saving with equal results for most laundry
- Air dry when possible: Zero energy use; 4–8 hours outdoors in Belgium (April–September)
- Use eco-friendly detergents: Biodegradable, phosphate-free, plant-based formulas
- Wash full loads: Maximises water and energy efficiency
- Skip fabric softener on towels: Maintains absorbency and extends lifespan
- Rotate sets: 2–3 sets per bed distributes wear and extends total lifespan
Sustainability FAQ
Is OEKO-TEX® the same as organic?
No — they address different things. OEKO-TEX® certifies that the finished product is free from harmful substances (safety focus). Organic certifications like GOTS verify that raw materials are grown without synthetic pesticides (agricultural focus). All our products carry OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification.
How often are your certifications renewed?
OEKO-TEX® certifications are renewed annually with fresh laboratory testing to ensure ongoing compliance with the latest safety standards.
Are your products safe for babies and sensitive skin?
Yes. OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 specifically tests for skin irritants, allergens, and harmful chemicals. Our products meet Product Class I standards — the strictest level, designed for baby products — making them safe for sensitive skin and allergy sufferers.
How can I verify your certifications?
Email Info@zmtextiles.be to request copies of our current OEKO-TEX® certificates, or search our certificates directly at oeko-tex.com.
Are your dyes eco-friendly?
Yes. All dyes are tested as part of OEKO-TEX® certification — no heavy metals, no azo compounds, and no carcinogenic colorants. Colour fastness is also tested to ensure dyes don’t transfer to skin.
How long do your products last?
With proper care: bedding 5–10 years, towels 3–7 years. Premium materials and reinforced construction mean fewer replacements and less environmental impact over time. See our care guide for maximum lifespan tips.
